Information will be kept confidential.KLARU's Conceptual Framework of Research
KLARU conducts applied research that applies a wide range of disciplines and involves diverse participant groups, including:
- patients who have physical and/or cognitively impairment
- geriatric patients with psychiatric or emotional disorders
- patients with diseases and disorders that affect the elderly
- caregivers (practical and emotional issues associated with caring for an elderly relative).
These clinical foci are studied through:
- clinical drug trials
- program evaluation
- qualitative analyses
- meta-analyses.
KLARU employs:
- scientists
- postdoctoral fellows
- technical and support staff
- administrative staff.
All scientists are integrated into Baycrest clinical departments. The role of these scientists is to:
- promote a questioning environment within departments
- promote changing attitudes towards care
- change clinical practices based on new knowledge arising from research
- establish practice benchmarks as bases for evaluation.
KLARU scientists share common ground with their colleagues at Rotman based on the characteristics of the populations they study. Regardless of their discipline, all Baycrest scientists study the elderly, and the majority of the elderly individuals being studied have a form of cognitive impairment.
KLARU scientists are appointed within the following disciplines:
- Clinical Pharmacology
- Communication Disorders
- Dentistry
- Epidemiology
- Geriatric Medicine
- Nursing
- Nutrition
- Occupational Therapy
- Physiotherapy
- Psychiatry
- Psychology
- Social Work
