Dr. Laura Wagner
Gerontological Nursing Research Scientist Kunin-Lunenfeld Applied Research Unit, Baycrest Centre for Geriatric Care
Research Focus
My research focuses on improving resident safety in long-term care settings, specifically nursing homes. I have conducted previous studies aimed at siderail and physical restraint reduction, falls prevention, and communication about safety among nurses in long term care. My research primarily focuses on helping nurses to improve nursing care processes related to safe resident care. In other words, how can nurses DO things better (i.e., more efficiently, ethically, evidence-based) so that safe resident care is enhanced. I am in the process of working on a study that queries both nursing home administrators and departments of health in the United States to examine their incident reporting policies, practices, procedures with an emphasis on health information technology being used to analyze the information. I am also working on a few pilot studies aimed at fall prevention and adverse event disclosure processes specific to nursing homes.Publications
